The Foundation takes on one project at a time so every dollar goes far. Right now, that’s bringing a seasonal ice rink back to downtown.
Downtown Hamilton Ice Rink
OUR CURRENT PROJECTPresented by the Hamilton Downtown Foundation & HockeyWolfHamilton hasn’t had an ice rink since the 1990s. Bringing one back means winter recreation for all ages, a boost in off-season traffic for local businesses, and a gathering place that builds connection. The Foundation is targeting a launch for the 2026–27 winter season, giving time to plan carefully, line up partners, and build something that lasts.
Why this one matters
A winter tradition, back at last
Hamilton hasn’t had a rink since the ’90s. This brings back a place for all ages to skate, gather, and play 3-on-3 pond hockey.
Refrigerated, so the ice lasts
A refrigerated unit holds ice no matter the weather. Meaning skating from Thanksgiving clear through Spring Break.
Good for downtown business
A rink draws people downtown in the slow winter months, sending foot traffic to the shops and restaurants nearby.
